Lovely champagne afternoon tea, beautiful surroundings in the dedicated tea room and professional but very friendly staff who are a credit to the hotel. We had excellent service from Marielle. Good choice of sandwiches and cakes, very freshly baked scones. Interesting selection of teas too. A real treat!

Always wanted to stay here since walking passed 20 years ago! It's a beautiful looking hotel and very impressive when you walk in to the foyer! The lady who checked us in was friendly and helpful (Nicole) and informed us that we'd been complimentary upgraded to a junior suite which was wonderful!! Lots of nice facilities in the room and it was spotless. Cocktails in the bar were fabulous. Breakfast had loads of choice, quality food and plenty to fill us up from the buffet! A wonderful experience from start to finish! Will be back!! Thank you

Arrived at the hotel & had a few issues with our stay, spoke to Jade from Guest Relations who was very helpful and we are now going back in 2 weeks time. I have worked in hospitality and appreciate things can go wrong but there can always be a positive outcome. The Midland Hotel is a beautiful hotel with lots of great stuff. Thank you.

My daughter-in-law and I had an overnight stay here, courtesy of a Secret Escapes deal. Disappointingly, our experience was not all we had hoped it would be. Check-in was just about alright, although staff were neither especially welcoming nor helpful. We arrived slightly early and, despite my daughter-in-law enquiring if our room was ready, she was told that it wasn’t ready and that none of the rooms were ready which was slightly surprising given that it was after 2.00.p.m (normal check-in time is from 3.00.p.m onwards and I actually didn’t believe that none of the rooms were ready at turned 2.00.p.m.). Anyway, it turned out that our room had been serviced and we were given the key shortly afterwards. First impressions of the room (#544) were mostly good, although the room was really cold which wasn’t ideal with the sub-zero temperatures that were prevailing in December. We had been allocated a superior room which was really spacious and, with the high ceiling and long drapes at the window, it actually looked quite grand. There were two double beds which turned out to be extremely comfortable. However, when we opened the curtains, we could see mould and cobwebs high up on the wall near the window, as well as paint peeling and a stain on the wall. We subsequently noticed a stain on the carpet and some bits on the floor so, obviously, housekeeping wasn’t particularly thorough. There were niggles in the bathroom too, with wobbly fittings, including the toilet flush. Breakfast was shambolic! It’s a self-service system but was completely disorganised with long queues everywhere. We queued to get into the dining room, we queued for drinks, we queued at the cold buffet and we queued for cooked food. Trying to find a table was also a challenge, with dirty plates and dishes stacked up on tables that weren’t in use. Of course, by the time I’d found a clean cup (there were no clean cups by the drinks machine) and got my coffee, I then had to queue for food so the coffee was barely lukewarm by the time I managed to drink it. Some hot items were not replenished and the hot food that was sitting under the lamps was enough to turn the hardiest of stomachs - dried up bacon, hard fried eggs that looked like they’d been there since Adam was a lad and congealed baked beans. Do they really believe that guests have no eyes and no taste buds? It really was very poor. Architecturally, this is a beautiful, landmark hotel that has a real feeling of grandeur, until you look more closely and realise that it’s seen far better days. There’s so much potential here but the hotel needs some real maintenance to lift the standard, as well as some serious management. Sorry to say but it's riding on the coattails of past glories.

I have always wanted to stay at the Midland. From outside it looks amazing and I did make it for afternoon tea when I completed my last degree. Following a rough couple of months due to health issues our children booked us a night there for a treat (we only live 12 miles away). When booking in I was asked if it was a special occasion and I relayed that it was a treat from the children. We were then upgraded to a suite (room 255). Oh my days, what a lovely gesture from the hotel. The rooms were fabulous and had everything you could possibly need plus things you didn’t know you needed! The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bed was the comfiest bed ever. The staff were all really nice and friendly. Breakfast the following morning was lovely, plenty of choice. In fact everything you could think of. There was a CLEFT conference on and the hotel was really busy, the staff all worked really hard and yet everything appeared to run smoothly. I would love to stay again.
